Gowanda means "a valley among the hills", which concisely describes the location of the village. Partially in Erie County and Cattaraugus County, Gowanda features many natural sites around the village perimeter and also historical sites in the center. Gowanda also borders the Cattaraugus Reservation, where members of the Seneca Nation reside.
VISITING Gowanda
Gowanda is right next to the Zoar Valley, which features over 2,000 acres of natural hiking trails, forest, waterfalls and more. The natural area extends along the Cattaraugus Creek and is a popular destination for nature enthusiasts. Gowanda is also very near to other larger cities, about 40 miles south of Buffalo, 36 miles north of Jamestown and 70 miles to Erie, PA.
ROUTES TO RIDE ON
The Seaway Trail: This is a large, 518-mile scenic route that travels mostly in the state of New York, but also enters into parts of Pennsylvania. Through this route, you can travel along Lake Erie, Niagara Falls, Buffalo, Rochester, Lake Ontario and ends near the St. Lawrence River. Passing through numerous cities and towns, there are plenty of historical sites to visit and state parks to explore too.
